Privacy Policy
We value your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains how we handle it when you use gist.
Last updated 14 August 2026
1. Introduction
gist is operated by Myalt Retail Tech Private Limited, which is the entity responsible for the personal data described in this policy.
By visiting our platform or providing your information, you consent to the collection, use, storage, disclosure and other processing of your information (including sensitive personal information) in accordance with this policy. You may choose not to provide the information sought, and you may withdraw consent at any time in writing. In either case we may be unable to provide the services for which that information was required.
2. Data we collect
We collect only what we need to run and improve the service:
- Account data — the email address you sign up with, and the topics and API keys you create.
- Usage data — API requests, the topics queried, timestamps, response status and volume, used for rate limiting, billing and diagnostics.
- Technical data — error reports, device and browser information, and aggregate analytics about how the site is used.
We do not ask for and do not want sensitive personal data in your API queries. Payment card details are collected and held by our payment gateway provider, not by us.
3. How we use your data
We use the data collected to:
- Provide the API and the dashboard, and authenticate your requests.
- Apply plan limits, measure usage and bill paid accounts.
- Identify and troubleshoot issues, and keep the service stable and secure.
- Analyse interactions in aggregate to improve the quality of returned context.
- Send service messages such as sign-in links and account or billing notices.
4. Sharing of your data
We do not sell your data. We share it only with the service providers that make the product work — hosting, email delivery, analytics and payment processing — and only to the extent they need it to perform that function. We may disclose personal and sensitive personal information to government or authorised law enforcement agencies if required to do so by law, or in the good-faith belief that disclosure is reasonably necessary to respond to subpoenas, court orders or other legal process.
5. Data security
We employ industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit and hashed storage of API key material. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the date above.
7. Retention and deletion
We retain your personal information for no longer than is required for the purpose for which it was collected, or as required under applicable law. We may retain data where there is a legal obligation to do so; where it is needed to comply with a statutory or regulatory requirement; where we believe it necessary to prevent fraud or future abuse; to exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims; or for other legitimate purposes.
If you have questions about this policy, or wish to delete the data we hold about you, contact Myalt Retail Tech Private Limited at hello@the-alt.co. Our registered office and phone number are on the contact page.
